DECEMBER 29, 2005 ISSUE
McIntosh
BURNA, Ky. Funeral services for Walter T. McIntosh, Sr.,
93, were held Dec. 23, 2005 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. Bennie
Chandler officiated, with burial in Hampton Cemetery.
McIntosh died Dec. 20 at Salem Springlake Care Center. He was
employed by Central State Hospital for 45 years.
Surviving are three sons, Walter T. McIntosh, Jr., of Burna, Eddy
McIntosh of Mount Washington and Wendall McIntosh of LaGrange;
six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother; a sister; his wife, Juanita
Turner McIntosh; and his parents, Minor and Myrtie Tomlinson McIntosh.

Truitt
Ruby Truitt, 86, of Marion, died Dec. 25, 2005 at Livingston Hospital.
She was a 49-year member of the Eastern Star and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Services were Dec. 28 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with
Rev. Tom Easley officiating. Burial was in Green's Chapel in Crittenden
County.
Surviving are two great-nieces, Donna Lauderdale of Mt. Vernon,
Ind., and Diane Kelley of Dale, Ind and other great-nieces and
nephews.

Belt
SPRING HILL, Fla. Funeral services for Scott Belt, 39, formerly
of Morganfield, were held Dec. 28, 2005 at Whitsell Funeral Home.
Belt died Dec. 22 at Oakhill Medical Center in Brooksville, Fla.
Rev. Randy Stallings officiated. Burial was in Odd Fellow Cemetery.
He was a registered nurse and had worked for Home Health in Union
County and had also worked in the ER in Evansville and Henderson.
Surviving are his wife, Kimberly Belt of Spring Hill; his mother,
Linda Ricketts Taylor and stepfather Wesley Taylor of Owensboro;
his father, Harlan Belt and stepmother Judy Belt of Marion; a
daughter, Jesse Belt at home; a son, Sam Belt at home; a sister,
Lisa Lovell Evans of Owensboro; two half brothers, Sean Belt and
Chad Belt, both of Marion; and three nephews.
Bennett
LOUISVILLE, Ky. Velda Rhea Bennett, 80, formerly of Marion,
died Dec. 27, 2005.
She was a member of Highview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Jim Bennett of Houston, Texas and
Clinton Bennett of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Billy Malcom
of Louisville and Paul Malcom of Crayne; and a sister, Edna Vaughn
of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murrel Bennett. Her
parents were Earl and Zula Malcolm of Crittenden County.
Services are at 1 p.m., on Dec. 29 at Fern Creek Funeral Home,
5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville with burial to follow in Highland
Memory Gardens.

Earl Frazer James, 95, of Marion, died Dec. 23, 2005 at Crittenden
Hospital. He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Imogene Stout James; and two stepsons,
Alan Stout and Keith Stout, both of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Amy Weldon James.
His parents were J.J. and Cora Bell James.
A memorial service was held Dec. 26 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev.
Wayne Garvey officiated.

PADUCAH, Ky. Services for Joseph P. Harris, 27, were Dec.

He died Dec. 19 at his home.
Surviving are his mother, Sandra Chesnut of Paducah; a sister,
Crystal Jordan Goode of Lancaster; two grandmothers, Sue Tabor
of Paducah and Jean Harris of San Antonio, Texas; a step grandmother,
Bernice Harris of Benton; a niece; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Gregory Harris;
and two grandfathers, Silas Tabor and Joseph Harris.
Rector
MADISONVILLE, Ky. Kenneth Franklin Rector, Sr., 46, died
Dec. 22, 2005 at Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the
Local 207 Union in Paducah.
He is survived by his mother, Daisy Mae Alexander Rector; a daughter,
Jennifer Lucille Messamore of Madisonville; a son, Kenneth Franklin
Rector, Jr., of Madisonville; six sisters, Judy Crunk of Madisonville,
Gail Cook and Sherry Rector, both of Central City, Rhonda Whitfield
of Madisonville, Felicia Wright of Mortons Gap and Chrystal Combs
of Madisonville; two brothers, Bobby Rector of Eddyville and Jimmy
Rector of Sebree; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Delano Rosevelt
Rector.
Services were Dec. 24 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home. Burial
was in Onton Cemetery in Onton.
Woodall
Mattie Willene Woodall, 85, of Marion, died Dec. 24, 2005 at Salem
Springlake Health and Rehab. She was a member of Crooked Creek
Baptist Church. Funeral services were Dec. 27 at Gilbert Funeral
Home with Rev. Bernard Watson officiating. Burial was in Crayne
Cemetery.
Survivors include five sons, Arnold Douglas Woodall and Maurice
Woodall, both of Marion, John William Woodall of Joy, Larry Woodall
of Eddyville and Oliver Clinton Woodall of Kuttawa; two daughters,
Linda Gilland of Fredonia and Lana Sisco of Marion; a brother,
J.B. Oliver of Newburgh, Ind., a sister, Wanda Caddick of Evansville;
16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Houston Woodall;
a granddaughter, Lori Perkins; a grandson, John Woodall, Jr.;
and two brothers. Her parents were William Otto "Jack"
and Liddie Grace Brasher Oliver.
Collins
Gary W. Collins, 71, of Marion, died Dec. 20, 2005 at Princeton
Health Care Manor.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Jan. 7, 2006 at Marion
Church of Christ. Rev. Bill McCormick will officiate. Funeral
Director Services of Symsonia is in charge of arrangements.
Collins was a member of Marion Church of Christ, was a retired
truck driver, and an U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the
Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Guiula Judy Collins of Marion; a son,
John Collins of Benton; two daughters, Laurie Weygandt of Canton,
Ohio and Tracey Kunstek of Lakemore, Ohio; five grandchildren;
one step grandchild; and two step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter E. and Annie Horne
Collins.

Blackburn
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. Joseph "Joe" Blackburn, 53,
died Nov. 29, 2006. Services were Dec. 2 at J.C. Kirby & Son
in Bowling Green. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery. He was
the parts manager for Bowling Green International Truck &
Trailer. He was a member and elder of the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church, youth leader and videographer, coached Little League and
church league baseball and played on the church league. He was
also active in the church meals program.
Surviving are a daughter, Kim (Brian) Cowles and Brandon Blackburn,
both of Bowling Green; three brothers; Ronnie (Nancy) Landreth
of Marion, Eddie (Shirley) Landreth of Fredonia and Tommy Blackburn
of Bowling Green; a grandson, Evan Cowles of Bowling Green; a
niece, two nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

Lillian E. Walker, 86, of Marion, died Dec. 18, 2005 at Crittenden
Hospital. She attended Marion Church of Christ.
Services were Dec. 20 at Gilbert Funeral Home with burial in Mapleview
Cemetery. Rev. Bill McCormick officiated.
Surviving are a brother, William R. Heines of Marion; a niece
and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Walker; and
a sister.

GRAND RIVERS, Ky. Chester Jones, 92, died Dec. 15, 2005
at Salem Springlake Health and Rehab. He was a member of Friendship
Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Dec. 18 at Smith Funeral Chapel. Rev. C.C.
Brasher and Rev. Brent Lee officiated. Burial was in Landrum cemetery.

Cleo McDowell, 73, of Marion, died Dec. 17, 2005 at Western Baptist
Hospital. He was a member of Repton Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Louise McDowell of Marion; five sons,
Michael McDowell, Perry McDowell, Mark McDowell and David McDowell,
all of Marion and Wayne McDowell of Henderson; three sisters,
Vada Duncan of Marion, Peggy McDowell of Tulsa, Okla., and Polly
Chandler of Sturgis; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Chapel, Portage, Ind. Burial was in McCool Cemetery in Portage.

Hospital. She was a member and co-pastor at Miracle Word Church
in Salem.

Ola Mae Gilland, 84, of Marion, died Dec. 10, 2005 at Crittenden
Health and Rehab. She was a member of Piney Fork Cumberland Presbyterian
Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn (Harold) Cannon of
Marion, Ola Rhea Crider of Marion, Elaine (Ronnie) Shinall of
Marion and Connie Gilland of Fredonia*; three sons, Vernon (Linda)
Gilland of Fredonia, Paul Gilland of Fredonia and Dwight Gilland
of Paducah.; 12 grandchildren, Kim George, Suzanne Eberle, Gina
Brown, Greg Crider, Tricia Gage, Jonathan Gilland, Rhonda Shinall,
Keith Shinall, Jayson Gilland, Michael Gilland, Patrick Gilland
and Jennifer Starnes; several great-grandchildren; several step
grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Gilland; a daughter,
Faye George; and two granddaughters, Lori Perkins and Carol Ann
Hughes. Her parents were Charles and Lillie Mae Barnes.

Gilland died Dec. 14 at Crittenden Health Systems.

Barbara N. Byler, 76, of the Amish community in Crittenden County,
died Dec. 12, 2005 at her home.

Byler, all of Marion, and Emma Miller of Dover, Del; seven sons,
Joseph Byler of Dover, Del., Allen Byler, Enoch Byler and Marvin
Byler, all of Fredonia, Penn., Rudy Byler of Charlotte Mich.,
David Byler of Marion and Paul Byler of Wyoming, Del.; 87 grandchildren;
and 31 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m., Dec. 16 at David R. Byler's residence
in the Amish community. Burial will be in the Amish Community
Cemetery.

Hazel C. Drennan, 82, of Marion, died Dec. 11, 2005 at Crittenden
Hospital. She was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Services were Dec. 13 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Tim Baker
and Rev. Rob Ison officiated. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery.

FREDONIA, Ky. Vivian Phelps, 95, died Dec. 10, 2005 at Crittenden
Hospital. She was a member of Fredonia Cumberland Presbyterian
Church.
Services were Dec. 12 at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton. Rev.
Don Phelps and Rev. Curtis Franklin officiated. Burial was in
Asher Cemetery.

Lillian Cox May, 94, of Marion, died Dec. 10, 2005 at her home.
She was a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church, the retired teachers
associations of Indiana and Kentucky and was past president of
the Eastern Kentucky University Alumni Association.
Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Iddings of Marion and Betty
Steele of Sikeston, Mo.; six grandchildren, Beth Steele of New
Castle, Ind., Keith (Caryn) Steele of Marion, Jo Ann Steele of
Indianapolis, Ind., Carolyn (Scott) Parker of Denver, Colo., Jonathan

CHESHIRE, Conn. Virginia Meadows Bradburn, formerly of Princeton,

SMITHLAND, Ky. Lloyd L. Hall, 87, died Dec. 14, 2005 at
his home. He was a member of Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church
where he was a deacon for 55 years. He was the recipient of a
63-year membership pin from the Ohio River Baptist Association.
Surviving are two sons, Billy Ray Hall and Robbie Hall, both of
Joy; a daughter, Marie Hall Patterson of Paducah; five grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Marie Adams Hall; two
sons, Larry Dale Hall and Jesse "Popeye" Franklin Hall;
a sister; a great-grandchild; and his parents, Jesse Marion Hall
and Mary Alice Dunning Hall.

FREDONIA, Ky. Martha Jane Hall Jacobs, 64, died Dec. 1,
2005 at her home. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Ingram
CROSSVILLE, Ill. Methel Roxie Ingram, 89, died Nov. 29,
2005 at White County Medical Center Hospital in Carmi, Ill. Services
were Dec. 3 at Cook Funeral Chapel in Crossville.
Ingram was a member of the Methodist church in Crossville, was
a musician and was a member of an evangelical quartet for many
years.
Surviving are two sons, Larry Ingram of Rockville, Md., and Ed
Ingram of Chalfont, Pa.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garcia Ingram; and her
parents, Charles and Ella Bolen Bryan.

KUTTAWA, Ky. Funeral services for Helen Little, 89, were

She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins in Crittenden

Cannon
PRINCETON, Ky. Services for Cleatus Cannon, 92, of the Shady
Grove community, will be at 1 p.m., Dec. 8, 2005 at Morgan's Funeral

Cannon died Dec. 5 at Caldwell County Hospital. She was a member
of Grace Baptist Church in Evansville.
She is survived by a son, James "Sonny" Cannon of Evansville;

two great-grandchildren; and a niece, Brenda Benton of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Cannon; her parents,

Cleo Hughes, 95, of Marion, died Dec. 3, 2005 at Crittenden Health
and Rehab. She was a member of Piney Fork Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son, Charles Hughes of Evansville; two sisters,
Annie Duke Lanham of Weirsdale, Fla., and Lavern Davidson of Detroit,
Mich.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clem and Nora Moran

Pyse served in the U.S. Navy and owned and operated Morrison Cattle
Company in Erie and in Crittenden County for over 40 years.

Prophetstown, Ill.; three sons, John Pyse, Jamie Pyse and Jeremie

LAPORT, Ind. Delmer Lee Newcom, 73, died Nov. 2, 2005. He
was born in Crittenden County and lived in Hobart, Ind., before
moving to Laport. He was a Korean War veteran.

Council of Teachers of English.

Millikan
James C. "Clem" Millikan, 50, of Marion died Oct. 23,
2005 at Salem Springlake Care Center. Services were Oct. 25 at
Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Donnie Howton officiated with burial
in Frances Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Hazel Millikan of Marion;
three sons, Eddie Millikan, Wayne Millikan and Thomas Millikan,
all of Marion; a brother, Willie Millikan of Export, Penn.; six
sisters, Kay Jacobs of Frances, Brenda Millikan, Rita Lynch, Patricia
Sysco, Donna Herron and Dana Berry, all of Marion; and five grandchildren.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. Hiram Glenn DeMoss, 52, died Oct. 23,
2005. He was a maintenance foreman for Peabody Coal Company for
many years.
He is survived by a daughter, Alisha DeMoss of Cincinnati, Ohio;
four sisters, Patricia DeMoss of Evansville, Gail DeMoss, Sharon
Harper and Karen LeGrand, all of Madisonville; several nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Taylor and Willie
Hazel Coffman DeMoss.

Margie J.Gillespie, 87, of Marion, died Oct. 13, 2005 at Western
Baptist Hospital in Paducah. She was a member of Repton Baptist

Helen McConnell, Sue McDowell and Carolyn Hinchee, all of Marion;
10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

LEDBETTER, Ky. Services for Leslie Shekell, 49, were Oct.

Shekell died Oct. 5 at his home. He was a graduate of Livingston
Central High School and Murray State University and held a law
degree from Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif. He practiced
law for 10 years in Paducah and 10 years in California.

SAN BERNADINO, Calif. Carl Dennis McGrew, formerly of the
Joy community in Livingston County, died Oct. 4, 2005 at Country

Surviving are a sister, Eloise McGrew and a nephew, Larry Perkins,

James Robert Waide, 58, of Marion, died Sept. 25, 2005 in a motorcycle
accident near Madisonville.
He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Marines and was a member
of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club.
Surviving are four daughters, Debbi Mattix of Clarksville, Sherry
Robertson of Mountain Home, Ark., Jamie Waide of Nashville and
Teresa Haynes of Arizona; two sisters, Wilma Brittain of Dawson

Fern
CALVERT CITY, Ky. Jim Fern, 72, died Sept. 7, 2005 at his
home. He served in the U.S. Army and was an active member of First
Baptist Church in Calvert City, Kentucky.
He began his teaching career in Marion in 1956. In 1958, he was
appointed as Music Director for Hopkinsville schools. He was the
State Supervisor of Music from 1966-1967. In the following years,
he taught band at Reidland and Benton middle schools. He had conducted
various church choirs in the western Kentucky area, was a KMEA
adjudicator and guest conductor for many All-District bands and
recognized as Kentucky's Outstanding Young Educator.
He served as the Executive Secretary of Kentucky Music Educators
Association for 32 years. During his tenure with KMEA, he received
the KMEA Distinguished Service Award as well as the Friend of
Music Award.
Fern served as broker of Fern Real Estate and two independent
insurance agencies. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carolyn
Coakley Fern; a son, Bob Fern of Florida; a son, Jay Fern of Indianapolis,
Ind.; a daughter, Martha Fern of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandsons.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to

Lyons, Ill.; two daughters, Kay Gorman of Johnsburg, Ill., and

Orenduff
TUCSON, Ariz. James Randell Orenduff, 79, died Sept.
7, 2005. He was born in Crittenden County and moved to Tucson
in 1956. He served in World War II and was retired from San Manuel
Copper Mine where he worked as an electrician and with their early
computer systems.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; a daughter, Sue;
and sons Larry and Wayne; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren;
and six sisters and two brothers of Marion.
Services were Sept. 12 in Tucson with burial in East Lawn Cemetery.
Gahagen
EVANSVILLE, Ind. George Elmer Gahagen, 83, died Sept. 7,
2005 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center.
He was born in Crittenden County, graduated from Mattoon High
School and retired from Arkla after 25 years of service. He was
a member of Albright United Methodist Church and a 60- year member
of the Wheatcroft Masonic Lodge #881.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Helene (Santy) Gahagen;
a daughter, Joyce Silver of Evansville; three sons, Warren Silver,
Jr., Terry Silver and Darce Silver, all of Evansville; two sisters,
Ada White of Crittenden County and Geneva Franks of Sun City,
Ariz.; a brother, Roy Gahagen of Crittenden County; and several
grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ella (Reynolds)

Hospital. She was a former employee of Shawnee Plastics in Kuttawa
and a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Lyon County.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth Kemper of Kuttawa; a sister,
Faye Stinnett of Dycusburg; two brothers, Goble Joyce of Marion
and Art Joyce of Kuttawa; two grandsons, Chad Kemper of Wahpeton,
N.D., and Tyler Kemper of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Kemper; a son,
David "Sonny" Kemper; two sisters, Margaret Linzy and
Jerline Boyd; two brothers, Randy Joyce and Owen Joyce; and her
parents, Lelan Joyce and Stella Peek Joyce.
Services were at 2 p.m., Sept. 7 at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville
with Rev. Terry Davis and Rev. Darrin Miller officiating. Burial
was in Dycusburg Cemetery.

Ruby Belt, 76, of Marion, died Sept. 6, 2005 at Salem Springlake
Health and Rehab. She was a member of Hurricane Church.
Surviving are two sons; William Charles Rice of Greenville, S.C.,

two step daughters, Dorothea Hodge and Anna Rae Porter, both of

Virginia Lee Byford, 86, of Marion, died Aug. 27, 2005 at Salem
Springlake Care Center. She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian
Church and was the former owner of Byford Department Store in

WHEATCROFT, Ky. Marshall L. Byford, 70, died July 24, 2005
at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi, Ill. He retired
from Peabody Coal Company and was a U.S. Army veteran and member
of Clay First Baptist Church where he was the song leader and
a Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of Wheatcroft Masonic
Lodge No. 881, Madisonville Rizpah Shriners and Scottish Rite.

sisters, Pam Marlowe of Fredonia, Barbara Mercer of Princeton

and Neal Dalton of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

MORGANFIELD, Ky. Funeral services for Josephine Hite Drury,

Waverly. She died July 17 at Morganfield Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She graduated
from St. Vincent Academy in 1937. She and her husband opened Drury's
Candyland in 1962, which they owned and operated until their retirement.

Belt of Marion; two sons, Marlin Drury of Waverly and James Drury
of Gilbertsville; a sister, Florence Henshaw of Morganfield; a

John R. Wolf, Jr., 19, of Marion, died July 11, 2005 in a car

Wolf was a member of Life in Christ Church where he played drums

O'FALLON, Ill.-Ret. USAF Chief Master Sgt. Dennis Leon Peek, 56,
died June 25, 2005 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born in Eddyville, Ky. He served 30 years in the U.S. Air
Force and retired from AFCA at Scott AFB in 1998. He most recently
was employed by ARC as a defense contractor at Scott AFB. He was
a member of Scott AFB Chief's Group; Air Force Sergeant's Association;
American Legion; and a member of the Kentucky Colonels. He was
a U.S. Air Force Vietnam War Veteran and served two tours of duty
in Vietnam, one in Thialand, and one in Korea.
Surviving are his wife, Patty Fitzgerald of O'Fallon, Ill.; a
daughter Tricia (Jon) Brown of O'Fallon, Ill.; a son Todd (Andrea)

Clark, 103
Mable Cline Clark, perhaps the oldest Crittenden County resident,
died June 13, 2005 at age 103. She died at Crittenden Health and
Rehab.
She was a member of Marion United Methodist Church.
Clark and her brother, the late Calvin "Cap" Cline,
worked at the original Marion Cafe on Main Street, and she later
worked at The Coffee Shop under the ownership of Jack Easley.
She had been a life-long resident of Crittenden County.
Surviving are a daughter, Katherine Wardlaw of Marion; six grandchildren;
10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Clark; a son, William

EDDYVILLE, Ky. Diane Henry, 58, died June 6, 2005. Formerly
of Hobart, Ind., she worked in Indiana public schools 30 years,
including a teacher, counselor and principal. She retired in 1999.
She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Princeton and
the Trigg-Lyon Newcomers Club.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry A. Henry; a son, Paul E. Puskar
of Chicago; two stepsons, Mark (Janynne) Henry of Valparaiso,
Ind., and David (Deb) Henry of North East, Md.; in-laws Shirley
(Kenneth) Winters of Murray, Ramona (Don) Brasher of Marion, Jane
(Robert) Watson of Marion and Louis (Jennalee) Henry of Hernando,
Fla.; two brothers, Norb Mattingly of Hobart, Ind., and Lynn (Barbara)
Mattingly of Crete, Ill.; three sisters, Phyllis (Thomas) Coil
of Griffith, Ind., Shirley (Fred) Urbanik of Hobart and Juanita
(Ron) Banks of LaPorte, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Ann Mattingly of
Portage, Ind.; and five step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Mattingly; and
her parents, Mary and Vance Mattingly.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., June 9 at Morgan's Funeral
Home. Rev. Ronnie Sivells and Rev. John Benton will officiate.

Belt
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. H. Paul "Pat" Belt, 80, died
June 2, 2005 at his home.
He was born in Tolu. His family moved to Fairfield, Ill., in 1940,
where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Navy
aboard a tanker in the Pacific during World War II. Following
discharge, he was employed by Davis Oil Co., in Fairfield. He
later worked for his older brother Marvin in his trucking company,
where he remained until becoming general manager of the Te-Khi
Truck/Auto Plaza in Battle Creek in 1964. He was later a partner
in the company until 1983 when he became sole owner. He sold it
and retired in 1998.
A resident of Marshall until 1990, he was a member of the Marshall
Rotary where he was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award.
From 1990-2000, he made his summer residence in Traverse City
and spent winters in Englewood, Fla. He was a former member of
the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce, where he served on
the board and was instrumental in initiating successful fund raisers
for the Silent Observer Program. He was owner/operator of The
Hoover House restaurant and banquet rooms in Albion; The Courtyard
restaurant and banquet facilities and the Days Inn in Albion and
the Four Seasons banquet facilities at the Te-Khi in Battle Creek.
He is survived by his wife, Rhodora; five sons, Michael (Vicki)
Belt, Mark Belt, Richard Belt, Steve Belt and David Belt; a daughter,
Deborah (Mark) Harvey; three stepdaughters, Sharon (Frank) Stoer,
Robin (Michael) McGrath and Sara (Michael) LeVan; a brother, Eugene
Belt; 10 grandchildren, Jason Belt, Nicholas Belt, Angela Young,
Michael Harvey, Alexa Harvey, Paul Belt, Jessica Belt, Alec Belt,
Aric Belt; and step-grandchildren Hilary Stover, Peter Stover,
Abigail Stover, Heather McGrath, Ryan McGrath, Katherine LeVan
and six great-grandchildren.
His parents, Mark and Trecy Belt, preceded him in death, as did
a brother, Marvin.
A family service will be held at a later time.

Mary Catherine Lewis, 88, of Marion, died June 1, 2005 at Crittenden

Stegall
HERMITAGE, Tenn. Wallace T. Stegall, 87, formerly of
Salem, died June 2, 2005 at McKendree Village Healthcare in Hermitage.
He was mayor of Salem for 13 years and a member of Salem Baptist
Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir
member.
He served as a pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II.
He earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees
from Murray State University. He was a school teacher and ASCS
office manager.
Stegall is survived by his wife, Pauline Stringer Stegall of Hermitage;
a son, Dr. Barry Stegall of Dayton, Ohio; three stepchildren,
Cynthia Hart of Hopkinsville, Darilyn Mason of Hermitage and Paul
Stringer of Evansville; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Stegall; a daughter,
Janie Norman; three brothers; and his parents, Clarence and Alva
Jane Vaughn Stegall.
Services were June 5, 2005 at Salem Baptist Church. Rev. John
East officiated. Burial was in Old Salem Cemetery. Boyd Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.

VALPARAISO, Ind. Gloria Stevenson, 60, of Portage, Ind.,
formerly of Highland, Ind., died May 19, 2005 at Porter Memorial
Hospital.
She was an alumni of Highland High School in Highland, Ind., employed
as a safety manager at the Eastern Express for several years and
a member of the South Suburban Traffic Club.
She is survived by a son, Ed (Judy) Stevenson of Fairbanks, Alaska;
a brother, Sonny Wheeler of Kentucky; two nieces, Lisa and Cyntina
and a nephew, Troy.
She is preceeded in death by her parents, Roy and Mabel Wheeler.

MEBANE, N.C. David Brown Horning, 63, died April 15, 2005

Texas; a son, David J. (Vicki) Horning of Hot Springs, Ark.; a

STURGIS, Ky. Funeral services for William Gordon Quinn,

MORGANFIELD, Ky. Larry Joe Jenkins, 56, died May 11, 2005
at Methodist Hospital in Union County.

a Livingston County magistrate for 16 years and was employed at

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Toney Bell Ringstaff of
Burna; three sons, Glen Ringstaff of Calvert City, Ricky Ringstaff

Ringstaff of Salem, Jack Ringstaff of Sharp and Wayne Ringstaff

57, formerly of Marion, died suddenly from a heart attack on May
7, 2005 at his home. He was the managing director of Kennedy Information
Group, the publisher of The Palm Beach Journal magazine and a
member of Marion United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alexandra Wankowicz Allen; a sister,
Barbara (Brent) Allen Roberts of Frostproof, Fla.; stepfather,
Bobby Donald (Don) Watson, Sr., of Marion; stepbrother, Bobby
D. (Claudia) Watson, Jr., of Nashville, Tenn.; and stepsister,
Paula (Doug) Davis of Henderson; seven nieces and nephews; and

Annabel Pullum, 92, of Marion, formerly of Evansville, died April
26, 2005 at Livingston Hospital.
She retired in 1968 from the Evansville State Hospital.

Lisa Baker, Tony Campbell and Dr. Kelley Suchman; nine great-grandchildren;

SMITHLAND, Ky. Louis Ray Faulkner, 90, died April 24, 2005
at Salem Springlake Care Center. He attended Bethel United Methodist
Church, was a member of the American Legion Burna Post 217, served
in World War II and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by four nephews, David Stalions of Smithland, Fred
Faulkner of Versailles, John Faulkner of The Woodlands, Texas
and Dr. Baird Faulkner of Nashville; two nieces, Kay Story of
Benton, Beverly Wallace of Salem, a sister-in-law, Gladys Faulkner
of Salem; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Tommy Williams of Marion and Charlie Williams of Eddyville; a
grandfather, Clarence Adams of Marion; and two uncles.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Williams.

Quertermous
PADUCAH, Ky. Ray Quertermous, 92, died April 18, 2005 at
Western Baptist Hospital. He was a member of the VFW in Paducah,
was a World War II Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are three sons, Kenneth Quertermous, Wayne Quertermous
and David Quertermous, all of Paducah; a daughter, Rayma Bradshaw
of Paducah; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren;
and 14 great-stepchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers; five sisters; his wife,
Geraldine Faye Quertermous; and his parents, Jasper and Nona Quertermous.

Scofield, a member of Ledbetter United Methodist Church, died
April 16 at Western Baptist Hospital. He was a member of American
Legion Post 217, Masonic Lodge 148 in Providence where he was
Past Master and the Scottish Rite.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Flory Scofield of Ledbetter;
three sons, Joseph Scofield of Palm Bay, Fla., Charles Scofield
of Muncie, Ind., and Thomas Scofield of Clay; two daughters, Karen
Melton of Symsonia and Shelly Phillips of Providence; 11 grandchildren;
and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph C. and Mary M.

She was a retired line worker at Arvin Industries and a member

She is survived by a daughter, Eva Miller of Benton; 11 grandchildren;
and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Sullivan; four

Sullivan; a daughter, Ada Sullivan Tosh; and two sisters, Francis

Catherine A. McDaniel, 86, of Marion, formerly of Evansville,

TAYLORSVILLE, Ill. Jay Evan Hamilton, 43, died March 5,
2005 at his home when he was crushed by a tall wrought iron light
post. He was project manager for the Illinois Environmental Protection
Agency. He was the son-in-law of Pamala Smiley Eaton of Metropolis,
Ill., and the grandson-in-law of Dorothy Norma Smiley of Paducah,
both former residents of Salem.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Eaton Hamilton of Springfield;
and 15-month-old triplets, Cole, Caleb and Clare; his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hamilton of Moweaqua, Ill.; a sister, Lea Ann
Oelfke; and a grandmother.
Burial was in Decatur, Ill.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. James C. Yates, 82, died March 13, 2005
at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born in Marion.
He was a veteran of World War II and worked in the parts department
with Rockwell International in California for 29 years and attended
Gospel Tabernacle Church.
He is survived by a son, Richard Yates of Mission Viejo, Calif.;
a daughter, Connie Whetstone of Peoria, Ariz.; and four grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.

George E. "G.E." Nelson, 72, of Marion died March 14,
2005 in Clay.

RICHMOND, Ky. Willie Clark Whitt, 86, died March 11, 2005
at Telford Terrace in Richmond. She was a graduate of Lancaster
High School and Western Kentucky University and was a home economics
teacher in Hebron, Ky. She was an active member of First Presbyterian
Church where she was a deacon and was active in ladies circles.
She was a member of the Homemakers Club, the WBCCI Airstream Club
and had been instrumental in organizing the Pink Ladies.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, A.L. Whitt, Jr.; two sons,
Clark Lewis Whitt of Key West, Fla., and William B. Whitt of Richmond;
a daughter, Sandra Mushkat of Cincinnati; a brother, H.B Clark
of Bowling Green; three grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Clark and Thurman
Clark; and two sisters, Doxie Cox and Ruby Ward.

Virginia Lou "Pert" Highfil, 91, of Marion, died March
13, 2005 at Livingston Hospital. She was the oldest, active member
of Mexico Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Padgett of Marion; two sons,
Tommy Highfil and Hugh Highfil, both of Marion; eight grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Highfil; a daughter,
Shari McDaniel; three brothers; and two sisters.

Western Baptist Hospital. He was pastor of Dunn Springs Baptist
Church for 37 years and was a retired factory worker and farmer.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Boone of Marion; his
father, Bro. James Boone; four sons, Bro. Eddie Boone, Terry Boone
and Matthew Boone, all of Marion, and Jimmy Boone of Clay; four
daughters, Debbie Dutton, Sandra Tabor, Mary Ann Boone and Amanda
Kirk, all of Marion; a brother, Herbert Boone of Marion; a sister,
Karen Wheeler of Marion; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary T. Boone; a sister,
Nina Woodall; and a granddaughter, Haylee Boone. Pallbearers will

ROBINSON, Ill. William "Harold" Harden, 81, formerly
of Rosiclare and Palatine, Ill., died March 3, 2005 at the Long
Term Care Unit of Crawford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Tolu.
He was a mechanic for Meyer Material in Wheeling, Ill., and for
Alcoa Mining in Rosiclare. He served in the U.S. Army during World
War II.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Rieke Harden; three daughters,
Judy Massof of Washington, Mich., Dolly Robinson and Mary Harden,
both of Robinson; a sister, Peavy Threlkeld of Rosiclare; five

Driver died Feb. 19 at his home. He was Navy veteran of the Korean
War and was a towboat captain for more than 30 years. He was a
member of the retired Towboat Pilot Association of Paducah, Masonic
Lodge No. 212 of Carrsville, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Sturgis,
Eastern Star of Marion, the Scottish Rite, the York Rite Bodies,
the Princeton Shrine Club and the Rizpah Shrine, and he was a
Master 32nd Degree Mason. He attended North Livingston Baptist
Church.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Driver of Carrsville; a daughter,
Joyce Ann Rose of Burna; a sister, Dorothy Gerding of Carrsville;
a grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother; a sister; and two nephews.
His parents were Dellar Roy Driver and Ruby Myrick Driver.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. Leonard Hughie Farmer, 66, died Feb. 20,
2005 at Floyd Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Marion and
a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a former funeral director
for Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Mo., and a member of
Charlestown Road Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Kelly Farmer of Charlestown and Eric Farmer
of New Albany; a brother, Lowell Dacon Farmer of Providence; a
sister, Betty Sue Staggs of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

County Airport Board, was a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and

EDDYVILLE, Ky. - Georgia LaVerne Allcock, 71, died Feb. 8, 2005

GARDENA, Calif. Opal Clara Terry Rice, 93, died Jan. 20,
2005 in Torrance, Calif., where she lived for more than 50 years.
She was born in Blackford in Webster County.

Henry Clay Rice of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren;
and nine great-grandchildren. Local survivors are two nieces,
Martha Crider Bynum and Caroline Conway Riley; and three nephews,

Her parents were John Milton Terry and Clara Woodall Terry. She

Billie W. Holder, 71, of Marion, died Jan. 29, 2005 at Lourdes

Lonnie Sisco, 82, of Marion, died Jan. 30, 2005 at Crittenden
Hospital. He was a 32nd degree Shriner of the Scottish Rite and
a member of Salem Masonic Lodge #81.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Christine Sisco of Marion;
two sons, David Sisco of Marion and Paul Sisco of Fredonia; and
two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother. His parents were Ben and
Ella Ramage Sisco.

Ferguson
COLUMBUS, Miss. Jack W. Ferguson, 67, died Jan. 18, 2005
at the home of his brother in Columbus, Miss.
He graduated from Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn., with a bachelor's
degree in 1959, received his Bachelor of Divinity from the Cumberland
Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1962 and his Master of Divinity
in 1969 from Memphis Theological Seminary.
He was the minister to churches in Tennessee, Oklahoma Texas and
Kentucky, including Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Marion.
Survivors include three sons, Joe Ferguson of Cooksville, Tenn,
Dave Ferguson of Loudon, Tenn., and Brad Ferguson of the United
States Air Force his mother, Len Ferguson of Oklahoma City, Okla.;
a brother, Mark D. Ferguson of Columbus, Miss.; four grandchildren;
four step children; and seven step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack W. Ferguson, Sr.
Services were Jan. 22, at Vondel Smith South Colonial Chapel with
Rev. Don Coleman officiating with burial at Resthaven Memory Gardens

PORTAGE, Ind. Thelbert "Sonny" Wiggins, 89, died
Jan. 24, 2005. He was born in Livingston County and lived in Portage
since 1979. He was employed by U.S. Steel for 27 years and was
a member of the Steelworkers Union Local 1066. He was a lifetime
member of the Grand Lodge of Salem, Ky., F&AM #81.
Surviving are a son, Harold "Bud" Wiggins of Portage;
two daughters, Barbara Mabe of Portage and Debra Coleman, of Wheatfield,
Ill.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren;
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Wiggins; his parents,
Walter and Ollie Hodge Wiggins; two great-grandsons; five brothers;

Gyneth Rhea Strong, 88, of Marion, died Jan. 6, 2005 at Crittenden

retired from teaching after 28 years.

Hill died Dec. 30, 2004 at Crittenden County Convalescent Center.
He was a member and elder of the former First Presbyterian Church
in Marion and attended Marion United Methodist Church. He was
a retired coach and school teacher in the Crittenden County School
System and was a former school board member.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth N. Hill of Marion; three daughters,
Carol Baughman of Frankfort, Betty Ingram of Hendersonville, Tenn.,
and Lucy Alvey of Tell City, Ind.; a brother, Harvey Hill of Mayfield;
two nephews; and eight grandchildren.

Jerry Vinson, 63, of Caldwell County, died Jan. 2, 2005 at his
home. He was the owner and operator of Vinson Logging for over
30 years.

were Henry Leonard and Anna Ruth Gilland Rorer.
Hall
BENSON, N.C. Jon Morrison Hall, 64, died Jan. 2, 2005 at
his home. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., Jan. 15 at
St. Mary's Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Aubrey
Williamson and Rev. Frank McCallum officiating.
Hall was raised in Lyon County. He was a member of St. Mary's
Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Air
Force, operated a Pizza Inn, was a professional bass fisherman
and was a home construction contractor.
Surviving are his wife, Margurite Jones Hall; a son, Ronald "Ron"
Wade Hall of Four Oaks, N.C.; a daughter, Pamela Kay Smith of
Garner, N.C.; a brother, Billy R. Hall of Brownsville, Ore.; three
sisters, Sue Mills of Paducah, Nira McCallum of Marion and Sarah
Woody of Paducah; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Marvin Walter and
Bernice Dean Mize Hall; and a brother, Daryl Hall.

Wadlington
SALEM, Ky. Roy Wadlington, 65, died Dec. 21, 2004 at Western
Baptist Hospital. Services were Dec. 27, 2004 at Boyd's Funeral
Home. Rev. E.J. Hatton officiated. Burial was in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Gary Haney of Salem; a brother, Walter Wadlington
of Alabama; a sister, Mary Woodall of Marion; one granddaughter;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lewis and Linnie
Rushing Wadlington; four sisters; and three brothers.
Oglesby
MORGANFIELD, Ky. Nadine Oglesby, 90, died Jan. 4, 2005 at
Methodist Hospital Union County.
Oglesby was a member of the Morganfield First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Nelda Freer of Morganfield and
Shirley O'Neal of Newburgh, Ind.; a son, Noble Oglesby of Henderson;
five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Oglesby in
1985.
Funeral services were Jan. 6 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield
with Bro. Sam Belo officiating. Burial was in the Pride Bordley
Cemetery in Union County.
Damron
OAKLAWN, Ill. Arlene "Sissy" Damron, 70, formerly
of Marion, died Dec. 29, 2004 at her home. Funeral services were
Jan. 2, 2005 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Bill Baker officiated. Burial
was in Lola Cemetery.
Surviving are a sister, Peggy Bryant of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several
nieces and nephews.
Her parents were Taylor and Irene Damron.
