COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASSES
The Ed Tech Center invites you to learn something new! Check
out our classes being offered in January through May, 2005.
Registration and Enrollment: Please fill out the registration
form at the end of this section. All classes are open
to anyone and all classes have limited enrollment. Space in
a class is reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis when a
paid registration is received. Payment must be made with registration.
When we receive your payment, you are registered and confirmed
for that course. Confirmations will not be sent; if you
wish to confirm your enrollment in a class, please contact Dulcie
Hardin at 270-965-9294 or email at ccedtech@bellsouth.net.
If you decide to register for a class after the cut-off date,
please call to see if the class is still available.
Cancellation: We cannot guarantee all activities listed in this schedule will be available when you register. We reserve the right to cancel activities if there is insufficient enrollment (generally, below the minimum of 5-6 students). If cancelled, you may select another activity or receive a refund. In the event of bad weather, call the EdTech center to see if classes will be cancelled/ postponed. When in doubt, call 270-965-9294.
Location: All classes will be held at the Ed Tech Center located at 200 Industrial Drive in Marion.
Refund Policy: Refunds will be issued if one withdraws three business days prior to the first class or if the class does not meet the required enrollment. Failure to attend course(s) does not guarantee a refund. Full refunds are issued for all courses cancelled by the Ed Tech Center. A $20 fee will be assessed on all returned checks.
05-CE-01-01 DEFEATING COMPUTER VIRUSES AND SPYWARE
Protect your computer and your personal information from these
destructive and intrusive elements. Software will be provided.

Learn how to use the Powerpoint software to create presentations
with special features. You will learn how to create presentation
slides, add special pictures and formats, add effects and present

Learn to use Windows XP, the most versatile, user-friendly version

05-CE-01-04 DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Come learn how to use a digital camera and how to take quality
pictures that can be shared with others. Once you learn how to
transfer your pictures onto the computer and edit them, you will
have the option to print them out. Types of photo printers will
be discussed, as well as different types of photo paper. Bring
your own digital camera or use cameras provided for you. Class

05-CE-02-05 INTRODUCTION TO EXCEL
Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel, including tips and techniques
of: cell formatting, formulas, buttons and multiple sheets. Participants

05-CE-03-06 INTRODUCTION TO WORD
Learn how to use Microsoft Word to begin a new document, use buttons,
cut and paste, check spelling and change formatting. You will

05-CE-03-07 BASIC COMPUTER USAGE
Learn the very basics of computer usage. Participants are not
expected to know anything about computers prior to attending these
classes. Offered by the West Kentucky Education Cooperative, the
class focuses on workforce development skills. Participants need

05-CE-04-08 BUYING AND SELLING ON THE INTERNET
Have you ever wanted to know how to buy and/or sell on eBay?
Join in this class as you will examine the ins and outs of selling
over the internet and if you want to get your own account set
up you will need to bring a credit card (information will not
be seen by anyone else in the class). Class size is limited. Registration

05-CE-04-09 INTERMEDIATE EXCEL
This class is for anyone who has worked in Microsoft Excel
but would like to learn additional features beyond formatting.
You will learn additional formulas, program options, charts, page
setup, print options, cell freeze/split, sorting, and other topics.
Participants need to bring a notebook and pen/pencil. Class size

05-BI-01-10 NEW OVERTIME REQUIREMENTS
A representative from the Kentucky Department of Labor, Office
of Workplace Standards will be presenting the new regulations
on the new overtime requirements and exemptions. The two hour
presentation will allow time for questions. Class size is limited.

05-BI-02-11 WHO MOVED MY CHEESE?
Designed to help people change the way they look at change, this
program, based on the #1 bestselling book by Spencer Johnson,

This program is designed to teach you how to improve your

05-CE-01-15 CHEROKEE LANGUAGE 1
One of Kentucky's Native American languages, and still one of
the most widely spoken today, Cherokee is a beautiful part of
our history and culture. The instructor is Brian Wilkes, director
of Standing Bear Foundation, who will guide you through a conversational
curriculum as well as songs. Class size is limited. Registration

05-CE-01- LEARN BASIC SPANISH!
In addition to the more than 29 million people in the U.S. who
speak Spanish in their homes, millions more in Europe and Latin
America also speak this fun and beautiful language! I f you plan
on traveling to a Spanish-speaking country, or even to California
or Texas, this introductory Spanish course is for you. Our focus
will be on vocabulary and practical communication--what's really
important in making yourself understood. Amy Iddings, who is fluent
in Spanish and recently spent 7 months living in South America,
will guide you at a comfortable pace through pronunciation and
the basic Spanish structure. Get ready to 'habla espanol'! Class

05-CE-01-18 BEGINNING GUITAR, AND GUITAR II
Bring your own guitar and learn how to play! Thom Hawthorne will
show you the different parts of the guitar, how to tune it, appropriate
care of the instrument, and how to play several tunes. The first
half-hour will be for beginners and the last half-hour will be
for those who know a little about guitar. When registering, please
designate whether Beginner or Guitar II. Class size is limited.

05-CE-01-19 MAKE A SPRING WREATH
Join in this class and your final product will be a spring
wreath for your home or office. Instruction will include the basics
of wreath design and floral selection. All materials will be provided
for you to take home your own wreath. Class size is limited. Registration

05-CE-02-20 INTRODUCTION TO PAINTING
Have you ever wondered if you were the next Picasso? Join
this class to learn the very basics of painting: differences in
types of paints, types of brushes, brush strokes, etc. At the
end of the two night class, you will have completed your first
painting. The cost of the class will include two canvas boards,
a set of brushes, and enough paint to work with in class. Come
by the EdTech Center to one of Brandon's paintings. Class size

05-CE-02-21 ELECTRONIC SCRAPBOOKING
Come learn how to create electronic scrapbook pages. Find
out how scanning everyday photos and digital photos come together
to form an electronic book of memories that can be shared with
others. Bring photos to scan, cd with digital photos, and your
own bag lunch. Fee includes all supplies and a copy of the software
used in the class. Class size is limited. Registration closes

05-CE-03-22 BEGINNING CAKE DECORATING
Learn the basic tips for decorating a cake. You will learn how
to ice a cake smoothly, how to perform different trims, and how
to write and draw on cakes. Participants will need to bring some
type of spreader for icing the cake and also a round or oblong
cake pan. You will receive your own decorating kit to take with
you after the classes are over. Class size is limited. Registration

05-CE-03-23 CHEROKEE LANGUAGE 2
More of Kentucky's Native American language, with an increased
emphasis on vocabulary, sentence structure, and conversation.
The instructor is Brian Wilkes, director of Standing Bear Foundation,

05-CE-03-24 THE NEW DO'S AND DON'TS OF DECORATING
AND FURNISHING YOUR HOME
Does your home need some updating? Join a degreed interior
designer as she leads you through the basic fundamentals of design
(i.e., color, texture, proportion, light, and balance), furniture
arrangement, and new decorating ideas. Participants should bring
pictures of a room to receive individualized suggestions. (Special
note: Volunteer House needed! Someone who is taking the class
who would like to volunteer the use of their home as a demonstration
house, please indicate when registering. Shane will work with
the homeowner on basic design improvements. Homeowner would need
to budget $200-$500 for this project.) Class size is limited.

05-CE-04-26 "SMOKE SIGNALS" and
CONTEMPORARY
NATIVE AMERICAN ISSUES
As the Native American community in western Kentucky begins
to re-assert its identity, many stereotypes obscure the real issues.
Brian Wilkes of the Standing Bear Foundation, who has dealt with
these issues as a diversity advisor to industry, schools and police
agencies, will lead a discussion following a screening of the
film "Smoke Signals," the first major release
written, produced, and directed by Native Americans. Class size

Join Glenda Oliver from Classy Canines in Princeton as she
shows you the basics of grooming your dog. This one-night class
will demonstrate the do's and don't's of making man's best friend
