Fulton came into the postseason as heavy underdogs after losing seven of nine regular-season games, including a 30-14 loss to Crittenden just four weeks ago. Knowing full well that it would have to make some big plays to steal the upset, Fulton went for broke and wound up penniless. Two fourth-down-and-short plays deep in their own territory during the first half backfired and Crittenden made the Pilots pay.
Those fourth-down failures, a bad punt snap, a fumble and an interception gave Crittenden some fancy field position and the Rockets didn't waste a single opportunity, scoring after each Fulton mistep. Crittenden led 21-0 after one period and 40-0 at the half.
Rocket quarterback Sean Thompson rushed for two touchdowns and threw two scoring passes to senior tight end Shawn Lanham. Thompson finished with 94 yards passing on 6-of-12 accuracy. Senior fullback Jared Asbridge and junior halfback Demetric Moss pitched in 85 and 72 yards respectively on the ground.
Fulton moved into Crittenden territory just once in the game and it was only two yards across midfield after a good kickoff return. Otherwise, the Pilots were pinned back time and again while the Rocket offense and defense hit on all cylinders.
The game, Crittenden's only shutout this season, was so lopsided in the second half that officials allowed the game clock to run continuously, speeding up the contest's completion.
Crittenden, now 9-2, will host Murray (7-4) in the regional semifinal round next week at Rocket Stadium.
