TRICE HUGHES BOWL at Princeton
Back to the drawing board
PRINCETON – Crittenden County went back to the drawing board on offense and made some improvements, now it may be time to retool the defense.
The 0-2 Rockets scored their first touchdown of the season in the first quarter against Glasgow and made steady progress on offense, but the defense continues to show signs of helplessness as Crittenden lost 49-6 in the inaugural Trice Hughes Bowl at Princeton.
Glasgow, a 2A team from east of Bowling Green, dominated the game with a strong running performance. Crittenden's defense, which has yielded 112 points in two games, had no answer for the Scotties' simple but powerful ground attack.
The Rockets have allowed 14 touchdowns and a field goal in 16 possessions by opposing teams through two games.
Despite the porous defensive effort, there were some bright spots on offense as sophomore quarterback J.D. Gray threw for 129 yards and rushed for 109. Gray completed 16-of-28 passes as Crittenden opened up its offense trying to find a solution for last week's shutout against Massac County, Ill. Gray was intercepted three times, but after one, he made a touchdown-saving tackle, stripped the ball and recovered the fumble.
Senior receiver Adam Hardin had his best game ever, catching seven passes for 72 yards.
