Rockets host Fulton County
MARION – Jeramie Sorina tied a school record with three interceptions in a single game and Crittenden County made Fulton County pay for its mistakes in a 40-12 drubbing of its Class A First District opponent Friday.

The Rocket secondary, much maligned in the early part of the season, was stellar against the Pilots, picking off five of quarterback Shun Udley's one dozen passes. Crittenden turned four of the turnovers into touchdowns.

Winning its fourth straight game of the season, Crittenden wrapped up third place in the district and will play at Mayfield in the opening round of the playoffs Nov. 9. Fifth-ranked and undefeated Fulton City upset the fourth-ranked Cardinals 36-19 Friday at Mayfield to win the league championship for the first time since the Cardinals joined the Class A district. It was Fulton City's first victory over Mayfield in 45 years.

Crittenden had hoped for a playoff rematch with Fulton City, a team the Rockets lost to 26-22 earlier in the season, but will now get perennial power Mayfield – a team they have never defeated. The Rockets played Fulton City closer than any other team this season.

Against Fulton County, Crittenden's offense sputtered a bit early and led 14-0 at the half despite dominating the game. Four second-half touchdowns punctuated the victory as Rodney Robertson rushed for 162 yards and two TDs and quarterback J.D. Gray ran for 129 and a score.

Besides Sorina, Crittenden got interceptions from Joey Pluskota and Alex Wood as the defense held Fulton County in check the whole way. The Pilots rushed for 114 yards, but a third of those yards came on a couple of long plays. Their biggest gainer of the night was a 61-yard pass. Other than that, Crittenden was firmly in command.
