Rockets rip Muhlenberg North
Crittenden scores 34 in first quarter
Marion, Ky. (Sept. 3, 2004) - Crittenden County scored 34 points
in the first period en route to seven first-half touchdowns as
the Rockets easily dispatched hapless Muhlenberg North 48-19 on
the night Crittenden coach Al Starnes was inducted in the Marion-Crittenden
County Football Hall of Fame.
Rocket senior Shawnte Moss opened the game with an 86-yard kickoff return and started the scoring frenzy as Crittenden found the end zone on each of its seven possessions of the first half. Meanwhile, Muhlenberg North had gained only about a dozen yards by the midway point.
According to Kentucky high school rules, the game clock runs continuously once a team gets up by 45 points. So the second half went swiftly, although Muhlenberg was able to score three times against the Rocket reserve squad.
Junior Blake Gardner led Crittenden with two big touchdown runs and 132 yards on the ground. Quarterback Austin Berry threw for 90 yards, completing all three of his passes.
Coach Starnes and Jerry Woodall, a star from the late 1950s, were both inducted to the Hall of Fame during a halftime ceremony.
