Turnovers key in opening game
MARION, Ky. (Aug. 29, 2003) - Caldwell County stopped Crittenden
with 55 seconds to go at the Tiger 14, but fumbled on its next
offense play and Rocket Jerrod Jennings recovered at the Caldwell
County 11.
Two plays later, senior receiver Dustin Harris stretched out in the corner of the end zone to catch a Sean Thompson pass with 33 seconds, lifting the Rockets to a come-from-behind win.
Crittenden led 9-0 out of the chute, but Caldwell scored 20 unanswered points off second-quarter turnovers to lead most of the way.
Rocket running back T.K. Guess was carried off the field in an ambulance with a leg injury early in the fourth quarter and the Rockets dominated the game after that.
Rain in the first half left the field wet and there were nine turnovers in the game, five for Caldwell and three for Crittenden. No miscue was more costly than Tiger fullback Josh Hatchell's fumble in the waning seconds deep in Caldwell territory, allowing Crittenden's miracle touchdown at the end.
