Senior tackle Andy Hunt collapsed during halftime and was taken to a Madisonville hospital. The diagnosis was an illness unrelated to football. He was treated and released Friday night from the hospital, but will undergo more tests later this week to determine what's causing a prolonged health problem that's been sapping his energy.

Turnovers zap Rockets in 14-7 loss
Missed opportunities in red zone cost Crittenden the game

DIXON, Ky. - It worked the first time, but Rocket coach Al Starnes' magic playbook came up empty in the final minutes as the Rockets lost 14-7 on the road to 10th-ranked Webster County.

Starnes' scripted a brand-new play during a timeout for Crittenden County's third-quarter touchdown pass, but a similar attempt came up incomplete on a fourth-down pass into the end zone with 2:17 to play.

The successful play Crittenden's coach drew up quickly in a timeout huddle was a two-tight end lag route to the corner of the end zone that Zack Beverly caught for a 10-yard touchdown with 7:17 left in the third. That pass from Sean Thompson cut Webster's lead to 14-7, but misfires in the red zone throughout the game cost Crittenden a chance at upsetting the undefeated Class 2A Trojans.

The Rockets, who outgained Webster 262-104, couldn't overcome two early turnovers that gave the Trojans a short field and easy touchdowns. Webster scored after a fumble and an interception that gave it the ball at the 19- and 15-yard lines in the first half. Otherwise, Crittenden's defense scuttled the Trojans and their highly-touted quarterback Bryce Gibson, who completed just one pass it for a touchdown on fourth down from the three.

Despite the two costly turnovers in the first half, Crittenden had several opportunities to score. Nearly a half dozen times, the Rockets moved inside the Webster 25, but couldn't find the end zone, including twice in the final three minutes. Crittenden drove deep into Trojan territory six times on five occasions, the Rockets were stopped on fourth down. Crittenden knocked on the door, moving to the 4, the 15, the 22, the 8 and in the final 11 seconds to the 23, but couldn't punch it in. That inability to finish off its drives cost Crittenden a win over Webster, a team it had beaten six out of the last seven meetings.

Thompson kept Webster off balance between the 25s, rushing for 51 yards and throwing for 122 on 8-of-25 accuracy. Jared Asbridge rushed for a game-high 58 yards and Ryan Bradham had 36. However, the offense sputtered once the goal line was in sight.

A big factor in the outcome also was a touchdown pass to Tyler D. Guess, which was called back for a controversial blocking-below-the-waist penalty late in the second quarter. Crittenden was stopped afterwards at the 15 on fourth down to end the half.
